Relief Houseparent (Austin)
Position Summary:
Full-time, live-in position for professionals to participate as members of a therapeutic team to provide child guidance, monitoring of behavior and full responsibility as the acting parent for the care and well-being of up to six children and youth in a home setting.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide for the comprehensive care of children in care.
- Keep a clean and orderly home environment in which children assist and take pride in maintaining.
- Teach and ensure physical well-being and promote spiritual, emotional, intellectual and social growth of children in care.
- Attend the designated Presbyterian church and related church activities with children; work with service team and others to nurture the child’s spiritual development.
- Plan and supervise daily routine taking into consideration individual schedules and activities
Job Requirements:
- 21 years of age
- High school diploma.
- Prefer some prior experience with children in care.
- Must be willing to work as live-in for 14 days on with 6 days off.
Skills:
- Experience working with children.
- Good communication skills, patience, common sense, housekeeping/cooking/budgeting skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions and work as part of a therapeutic service team for best interests of children in care.
Working Conditions:
- Stair climbing, lawn maintenance, pool maintenance (boys home).
- Highly emotional setting at times. Must be prepared to intervene as appropriate to the situation.
- Possible emergency restraint situations and crisis intervention.
